Arunachal Pradesh Readies for Heavy Rainfall with Comprehensive Disaster Management Plan
Northeast Desk, 18th June: As heavy rainfall continues to impact Arunachal Pradesh, the Office of the Deputy Commissioner has mandated that the District Disaster Management Authority (DDMA) prepare a thorough disaster management plan in accordance with the Disaster Management Act 2005.
The directive aims to enhance the district’s capacity to manage and respond to various natural and man-made disasters. The comprehensive plan will include strategies, protocols, and resources necessary to mitigate risks, coordinate response efforts, and ensure the safety and well-being of the community during emergencies.
The Deputy Commissioner’s office highlighted the existing District Disaster Management Plan (DDMP), which serves as a crucial guideline for responding to disasters such as earthquakes, fire accidents, and other calamities. The order emphasizes the need for regular mock drills to test readiness and response capabilities. These drills will help organizations and institutions identify strengths, weaknesses, and areas for improvement in their disaster preparedness and response strategies.
DDMA Chairman Shweta Nagarkoti stressed that the disaster management plans must cover public places like shopping malls, hospitals, hotels, cinema halls, educational institutions, coaching centres, and other venues with large gatherings. The plans must outline measures to ensure the safety and well-being of employees, customers, visitors, and students during emergencies. This includes detailed procedures for evacuation, communication protocols, allocation of responsibilities, provision of first aid, and coordination with local authorities.
The proactive measures ordered by the Deputy Commissioner’s office underscore the importance of preparedness in minimizing the impact of disasters and safeguarding the lives of Arunachal Pradesh residents.
