Arunachal Pradesh Rugby Player Aims to Cultivate Sport in Home State
Northeast Desk, 23rd February: Agali Lingfa, hailing from Arunachal Pradesh, expresses concern that his newfound passion for rugby might face obstacles upon his return to his native state, where awareness about the sport remains minimal.
Representing Rashtriya Raksha University (RRU) in Gujarat, Agali recently concluded his participation at the Khelo India University Games (KIUG) 2023 held in Ashtalakshmi, where his team faced defeat in all four matches.
Despite his team’s performance, the 21-year-old Arunachali rugby player remains undeterred and is eager to promote the sport in his home state.
Originating as a footballer in Sepa, East Kameng district, Agali transitioned to rugby after being selected for the RRU Gujarat team. Intrigued by the athleticism and intensity required, he aims to establish a rugby team in Pasighat, drawing from his experiences in Gujarat.
Upon his transfer to the Pasighat campus of Rashtriya Raksha University, Agali plans to initiate the formation of a rugby team, leveraging the knowledge acquired from his time in Gujarat.
Recognizing the sport’s novelty in Arunachal Pradesh, Agali intends to introduce rugby to Under-14 children, emphasizing the importance of taking the initiative.
Acknowledging the abundance of footballers in the state, Agali envisions recruiting volunteers to form a rugby team, emphasizing the need for widespread understanding and acceptance of the sport.
He also seeks support from Rugby India to establish grassroots coaching facilities in the North Eastern state.
Reflecting on his participation in the Khelo India University Games, Agali commends the platform for providing invaluable learning experiences despite facing formidable opponents.
Emphasizing the significance of the process, Agali remains optimistic about the eventual outcomes of his endeavors to promote rugby in Arunachal Pradesh.
