Arunachal Pradesh Shines at National Arm Wrestling Championship
Northeast Desk, 3rd May: Arunachal Pradesh Chief Minister Pema Khandu recently took to the microblogging platform X to extend hearty congratulations to Pakjar Taipodia, who secured dual appointments as Treasurer of the Indian Arm Wrestling Federation and President of the North East Arm Wrestling Federation. Taipodia’s achievements have garnered widespread recognition for her exemplary dedication and leadership in the realm of sports.
The accolades come on the heels of Arunachal Pradesh’s historic triumph at the 45th National Arm Wrestling Championship, held at the Sher-e-Kashmir Indoor Stadium (SKIS) in Srinagar, Jammu & Kashmir, on May 28, 2023. The 45-member strong Arunachal Pradesh team showcased their prowess, clinching an impressive tally of 32 medals, including 5 gold, 9 silver, and 18 bronze.
Among the standout performers were Pakjar Taipodia, Sang Bodung, Katu Yomcha, and Ibi Lollen, who secured gold medals in their respective categories. Taipodia’s exceptional skill was on full display as she clinched two gold medals and one silver in the Masters and Grand Masters 80 kg category, solidifying her status as a formidable force in the sport.
Sang Bodung also emerged as a shining star, showcasing remarkable talent by securing gold, silver, and bronze medals in the 60 kg youth boys’ category, underscoring the depth of talent within the Arunachal Pradesh team.
The silver medalists, including Gejom Padu, Tuge Ame, Laiphu Joham, Toluk Bagra, Kiyir Riba, Yiter Basar Riddi, and Jumbom Lollen Ngomdir, made significant contributions to the team’s success with their stellar performances in their respective weight categories.
