Arunachal Pradesh to Establish Sainik School in TCL Region Through Partnerships
Itanagar: Arunachal Pradesh Education Minister Passang Dorjee Sona announced that a Sainik School will be set up in the Tirap, Changlang, and Longding (TCL) districts on an affiliation basis, partnering with NGOs, private institutions, and state government-owned schools. The initiative aims to meet the rising demand for such institutions in the region.
“These schools will be different from the existing Sainik Schools under the Ministry of Defence. Communications have already been sent to district magistrates and collectors by the Sainik School Society,” the minister informed while responding to a query from Independent MLA Laisam Simai in the Assembly.
Sona further stated that the central government has initiated a plan to establish 100 new Sainik Schools nationwide under a public-private partnership (PPP) model. Interested institutions must register for affiliation through a designated web portal, where their applications will be assessed based on policy compliance, guidelines, and rules set by the Sainik School Society.
The minister clarified that the final decision on establishing a Sainik School rests with the Ministry of Defence. Addressing a supplementary question, he mentioned that while the state government had previously proposed setting up a Sainik School in the TCL region, the Defence Ministry instead approved a school at Niglok in East Siang district, which is currently operational.
