Arunachal Pradesh to Host Inaugural North East Football League in 2025

Northeast Desk, 16th September: In a major boost to football in the region, Arunachal Pradesh is set to host the inaugural edition of the North East Football League (NEFL) 2024, slated to kick off in January 2025. The event, which will take place in the state’s capital Itanagar, promises to shine a spotlight on the sporting talent of Northeast India.

The North East Football Development Council (NEFDC) officially granted permission to the Arunachal Pradesh Football Association (APFA) to organize the league, as confirmed by an August 27 notification. The NEFDC statement read, “We are delighted to authorize the North East Football League at Itanagar, Arunachal Pradesh, which is scheduled to begin in January 2025.”

Deputy Chief Minister of Arunachal Pradesh, Chowna Mein, expressed excitement about the forthcoming tournament. “This league will offer a tremendous platform for our local players to demonstrate their skills. We are eager to showcase their talent on this prestigious stage,” he said in a recent tweet.

With the state fully prepared to host the event, Mein added, “Arunachal Pradesh is equipped with excellent facilities to ensure a smooth and successful league. Our sports-loving public will undoubtedly enjoy this exciting showcase of football.”

The NEFL is expected to attract teams from across the northeastern region, aiming to foster both athletic competition and cultural exchange. This landmark event is also anticipated to unveil new talents, further solidifying Northeast India’s reputation as a growing football hub.
