Arunachal Pradesh Youth Congress Protests Against Rising Unemployment, Calls for Government Accountability
Itanagar: The Arunachal Pradesh Youth Congress (APYC) staged a protest on February 6, joining the Indian Youth Congress’ nationwide movement demanding greater accountability from the government on job creation.
The protest, held at the APYC office, was led by APYC President Tarh Johny, who criticized the Union Budget 2025 for failing to address India’s rising unemployment crisis.
Addressing the gathering, Johny accused Prime Minister Narendra Modi of failing to fulfill his 2014 promise of creating two crore jobs annually. He called it one of the biggest lies” and stated that India, with 65% of its population below the age of 35, urgently needs a concrete roadmap for job creation.
He further alleged that under the NDA government, unemployment has reached alarming levels, with no real progress despite repeated budgetary announcements of ambitious employment schemes. Johny highlighted the social consequences of unemployment, claiming that frustration among jobless youth has led to an increase in drug abuse and trafficking cases in Arunachal Pradesh.
“It’s alarming to see that even police personnel have been caught red-handed in drug trafficking cases. Yet, the state government has failed to take concrete measures to prevent government employees from getting involved in such crimes,” Johny alleged.
Expressing support for Congress leader Rahul Gandhi’s recent speech in Parliament, Johny praised his insightful suggestions on tackling unemployment. He urged the government to incorporate these recommendations and take urgent steps to provide job opportunities for India’s youth.
The APYC reaffirmed its commitment to fighting for employment generation and called on the government to take immediate and tangible steps to address the growing crisis.
