Arunachal Pradesh’s ‘Medicine from the Sky’ Initiative Praised by World Economic Forum

Northeast Desk, 14th September: Arunachal Pradesh’s groundbreaking “Medicine from the Sky” initiative, launched in 2022 in collaboration with the World Economic Forum (WEF), has successfully delivered over 12,000 medical supplies across the state’s remote areas, according to a recent WEF report.

Chief Minister Pema Khandu took to social media platform X to celebrate the achievement, reminding the public that the initiative was initially launched as a pilot project on August 15, 2022, between Seppa and Chayang Tajo. The program is part of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of making India a global drone hub.

The CM remarked, “The scheme has successfully delivered thousands of life-saving medicines across the challenging terrains of Arunachal Pradesh. Heartening to see that our initiative has received praise from the World Economic Forum.”

The “Medicine from the Sky” project is designed to test the use of drone technology in healthcare logistics, helping to overcome the state’s difficult terrain and improve medical access in hard-to-reach areas. According to the WEF report, the project has saved over 15,000 hours of travel time by delivering essential medicines via drones, reducing dependency on ground transportation.

Launched in 2020, the broader initiative aims to close healthcare gaps in India’s remote regions, leveraging advanced drone technology to ensure timely delivery of medical supplies in difficult-to-access locations.
