Arunachal: Random Machete Mayhem Mars Naharlagun

Itanagar: A tranquil Wednesday afternoon in Naharlagun’s C-Sector was shattered by a sudden and unprovoked machete attack that left two residents injured and a community reeling. The swift response of the Arunachal Pradesh Police led to the rapid apprehension of the 19-year-old assailant, who is now in custody.

The horrifying incident unfolded around 1:15 PM when Daman Nima, hailing from Nima village in Upper Subansiri district, allegedly began assaulting unsuspecting passersby with a machete. Police described the violence as seemingly random and without any apparent provocation. Upon receiving reports of the bizarre attack, a team from Naharlagun Police Station, spearheaded by Inspector K Dev, immediately swung into action. Their relentless pursuit culminated in the suspect’s arrest near Pachin Road, shortly after the rampage began.

The victims, identified as 57-year-old Nehru Murtem and 54-year-old Hage Anku, both residents of C-Sector, sustained injuries in the unprovoked assault. They are currently receiving medical attention and are reported to be on the path to recovery. Authorities have not yet released specific details regarding their medical conditions.

In the wake of the incident, two cases have been registered against Daman Nima under the recently introduced Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita. The cases, NLG/PS Case Nos. 87/25 and 88/25, invoke sections 117(3) and 109(2) respectively, indicating serious charges. The accused remains in police custody as investigators delve deeper into the motives behind the sudden outburst of violence. Superintendent of Police Nyelam Nega affirmed that due legal processes are being followed and assured the public that all necessary measures would be taken to ensure justice.
