Arunachal: Section 144 imposed after Poll related violence claims youth’s life in Trizino-Buragaon,

Northeast Desk, 13th April: The unfortunate demise of Tenzin Libasow in a poll-related violence incident at the 14th Labour Camp in Khagok village, Jamiri, West Kameng, has cast a somber shadow over the region, prompting authorities to take decisive action to maintain law and order.

In response to the tense atmosphere in the Trizino-Buragoan constituency, authorities have imposed Section 144 of the CrPC to prevent any further escalation of violence and ensure public safety.

Similarly, Basar town in Leparada District has come under the purview of Section 144 since March 11th, 2024, as a proactive measure to curb the rising tide of election-related violence sweeping through the region. This executive action, spearheaded by Deputy Commissioner Atul Tayeng, underscores the gravity of the situation as the state braces for simultaneous elections to the State Legislative Assembly and Lok Sabha in 2024.

With the Model Code of Conduct already in effect since March 16th, concerns over unauthorized checkpoints and gatherings have heightened, necessitating the enforcement of Section 144 to maintain order and safeguard the interests of the public.

Reports have surfaced regarding the proliferation of unauthorized checkpoints manned by various individuals and groups across the district. While purportedly aimed at ensuring security, these activities have instead caused significant inconvenience to the general public and raised apprehensions regarding potential law and order disturbances.

As the region grapples with the aftermath of this tragic incident and seeks to navigate through the heightened tensions surrounding the upcoming elections, the enforcement of Section 144 stands as a crucial step towards restoring calm and ensuring the safety of all citizens.
