Arunachal: Sela Tunnel Attains Recognition as India’s Highest Tunnel by International Book of Honour

Northeast Desk, 10th May: BRO India celebrates a significant milestone as the Sela Tunnel is officially acknowledged as the highest tunnel in the country by the International Book of Honour, England. Spanning a length of 2.598 kilometers, this engineering marvel sits at an altitude of 13,000 feet on the Tezpur-Tawang Road, ensuring uninterrupted connectivity to the strategic Tawang Region throughout the year.

Arunachal Pradesh’s Chief Minister expressed his delight, stating, “I’m thrilled to learn of the International Book of Honour, England’s recognition of Sela Tunnel as India’s highest. This remarkable tunnel, crafted by @BROindia, stands tall at 13,000 feet on the Tezpur-Tawang road, significantly enhancing connectivity in Arunachal Pradesh’s strategic region.”

Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the Sela Tunnel, the world’s longest twin-lane tunnel, in Arunachal Pradesh on March 9. Positioned at an altitude of 13,000 feet, the strategically vital Sela Tunnel ensures seamless all-weather connectivity to Tawang in Arunachal Pradesh.

During the inauguration, PM Modi emphasized the significance of ‘Modi Ki Guarantee,’ particularly in Arunachal Pradesh. He underscored the transformative impact of infrastructure development in the Northeast, citing the laying of the Sela Tunnel’s foundation in 2019 and its subsequent inauguration as pivotal moments.
