Arunachal: Severe Flooding in Namsai and Lohit Districts Puts 34 Villages at Risk

Northeast Desk, 1st July: Continuous rainfall over the past five days has caused severe flooding in Namsai district and the Wakro circle of Lohit district, pushing all rivers in the region beyond their danger levels. The flooding has impacted a total of 34 villages, prompting a warning from C J Mannou, an official from the Water Resources Division.

The situation is particularly dire as the Kamlang river has overflowed into the Barreng river, and the Tengapani river has surged into the Tiyang river, posing grave threats to nearby villages. Additionally, the Jengthu and Noa-Dehing rivers are also flowing dangerously high, raising concerns about potential bank erosion.

Local authorities are actively working to mitigate risks and safeguard residents. Mannou has urged the Deputy Commissioners of Namsai and Lohit to enforce stringent precautionary measures and advised villagers to remain vigilant and avoid approaching river banks to prevent any untoward incidents.

The affected villages in Wakro circle of Lohit district include Wakhetliang, Manyuliang, and Pukhuri, while the Namsai district’s affected areas encompass Kherem, Pankhao, Memey, and several others. The authorities are on high alert as they continue to respond to the crisis and provide necessary assistance to the affected communities.
