Arunachal Shuts 386 ‘Zero-Enrolment’ Schools to Optimise Resources
ITANAGAR: In a significant move to streamline its educational infrastructure and better utilise existing resources, the Arunachal Pradesh government has ordered the immediate closure of 386 government schools across the state that have registered zero student enrolment. This directive, issued through a notification from the Education Department, underscores the state’s commitment to efficiency in its schooling system.
The decision, which received the assent of the Governor of Arunachal Pradesh, is aimed at ensuring that educational resources are deployed optimally where they are most needed. This strategic reallocation is expected to address existing disparities in teacher-student ratios and improve the overall quality of education delivery in the hilly state.
Teachers currently serving in these now-defunct schools will not be left in the lurch. They are slated for withdrawal and subsequent redeployment to other government schools grappling with teacher shortages. This process will strictly adhere to the established Teacher Transfer & Posting Policy, ensuring a fair and systematic relocation of educators.
Deputy Directors of School Education have been tasked with the crucial responsibility of facilitating the timely issuance of new posting and redeployment orders for these teachers. Furthermore, they are mandated to update all official records and the UDISE portal to reflect these changes accurately and promptly, ensuring transparency and proper record-keeping.
Education Commissioner Amjad Tak (IAS) announced the government’s decisive action, reiterating the state administration’s resolve to plug staffing gaps in schools and bolster the educational infrastructure across Arunachal Pradesh. The move is seen as a progressive step towards creating a more robust and responsive education system for the benefit of the state’s students.
