Arunachal Sports Minister Flags Off Fourth Edition of BRUTE 5km Promo Run
Northeast Desk, 27th July: Advocate Kento Jini, the Sports Minister of Arunachal Pradesh, and MLA Nyabi Jini Dirchi flagged off the fourth edition of the 5km Promo run of the Basar Running Ultra Trail Experience (BRUTE) in Itanagar.
The event saw participation from over 400 runners, including notable figures like IPR Minister Nyato Dukam and MLAs from Doimukh, Tawang, and Nari Koyu. Organized by Gumin Rvgo Kwlaju (GRK) in collaboration with Itanagar Capital Police, the run aimed to raise awareness about drug abuse and promote the tourism potential of Arunachal Pradesh.
The BRUTE 2024, initiated in November 2021, is set to take place at Basar Confluence in November 2024, drawing attention to Basar and the state’s untapped potential among runners, adventure enthusiasts, historians, and cultural evangelists.
The 5km run drew over 300 participants, including students, ITBP Jawans, and tourists. The first-place finisher, Taba Jobang, completed the course in 16 minutes. Advocate Kento Jini emphasized BRUTE’s objective to promote holistic fitness, well-being, and tourism. He committed to making the event a regular feature and highlighted the detrimental effects of drugs on youth.
The event, starting as a tourist-based running initiative, also promotes the Likabali-Basar-Mechuka tourism circuit and advocates for a healthy lifestyle. The marathon includes two categories: the elite ultramarathon (60km) and mid-distance (30km).
IPR Minister Nyato Dukam underscored the event’s role in fostering economic growth, sporting culture, and physical fitness. MLA Nyabi Jini Dirchi noted its appeal to national and international athletes, while MLA Nabam Vivek stressed the importance of showcasing the Likabali-Basar-Mechuka tourist circuit and promoting holistic fitness.
SP of Kurung Kumey district, Bomken Basar, mentioned that GRK conceived the event to boost tourism and healthy living. Engineer Er Joram Lali and student leader Tania Agu praised the event for encouraging physical fitness and a healthy lifestyle, with Agu urging the youth to avoid drugs and embrace health.
