Arunachal: Tawang District Administration Issues Winter Travel Advisory for High-Altitude Destinations
Itanagar: As winter sets in and weather conditions become more extreme in the mountainous regions, the Tawang District Administration has issued an advisory to ensure the safety of visitors planning to travel to high-altitude areas like Bumla Pass, Shongtser Lake, PT Tso, and Sela Pass.
The administration emphasizes the importance of checking updated weather forecasts and road conditions before embarking on any journey to these regions. Travelers are strongly advised to avoid traveling to mountainous areas during heavy snowfall or adverse weather conditions to reduce the risk of accidents or delays.
For those who do plan to visit, the administration has outlined essential precautions. Vehicles should be equipped with non-skid chains to navigate snow-covered roads safely. Visitors who are prone to high-altitude sickness or have been diagnosed with related conditions are urged to avoid elevated areas like Bumla Pass or Sela Pass to prevent health complications. Travelers are also advised to carry adequate warm clothing, emergency kits, and reliable communication devices to manage any unforeseen situations.
The advisory also stresses safety regarding outdoor activities. While Tawang’s frozen lakes offer stunning views, the ice may not always be stable enough to support human weight. Tourists are strictly prohibited from stepping onto frozen surfaces to avoid accidents. Additionally, visitors are encouraged to maintain the pristine environment of Tawang by refraining from littering and avoiding the use of single-use plastics or non-biodegradable materials.
In case of emergencies, tourists are advised to follow instructions from local authorities, tour guides, or rescue teams to ensure their safety. Authorities have also requested Inner Line Permit (ILP) issuing centers in Delhi, Kolkata, Guwahati, Tezpur, and EAC Bhalukpong to inform tourists about these safety guidelines to promote safe travel during the winter season.
