Itanagar: In a significant stride against the burgeoning drug trade, law enforcement in Lower Subansiri district has apprehended ten individuals linked to half a dozen cases filed under the stringent Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act. The details of these arrests were brought to light by Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Ojing Lego during the 8th District-Level NCORD (Narco Coordination Centre) Committee review meeting held on Monday.
The crucial meeting, presided over by Deputy Commissioner Vivek H.P. (IAS), served as a platform for collaboration, uniting key district officials with representatives from various community-based organizations (CBOs) and non-governmental organizations (NGOs). The primary focus of the assembly was to meticulously evaluate the efficacy of the current anti-narcotic strategies being implemented across the district.
Adding a practical dimension to the discussions, DSP Lego presented tangible samples of substances commonly encountered in the region, specifically suspected heroin and cannabis. This initiative aimed to enhance awareness among the diverse group of stakeholders, equipping them with the knowledge necessary for the accurate identification of prohibited drugs. Deputy Commissioner Vivek H.P. lauded the unwavering dedication exhibited by the district police force in their persistent efforts to tackle the deeply concerning drug problem. He further emphasized the strength derived from the collaborative spirit demonstrated by law enforcement agencies, influential community leaders, and proactive civil society organizations in their unified resolve to curtail the narcotics threat, with a particular focus on safeguarding the vulnerable Apatani Valley.
