Arunachal: Tensions Mount as Roing Police Apprehend Accused in Shankar Pegu Shooting

Roing, Arunachal Pradesh – The serene landscape of Lower Dibang Valley was shaken by a tragic shooting incident on July 13, claiming the life of Shankar Pegu, an Assamese resident. The Superintendent of Police, Lower Dibang Valley District, has released an official statement confirming the details and the swift apprehension of the alleged perpetrator.

The Roing Police Station was alerted to the grim incident on July 14, around 12:30 PM, following a telephonic intimation from the Officer-in-Charge of Naharlagun Police Station. It was reported that Shankar Pegu had been shot at 6 Kilo Bridge Point in Roing by one Tadar Bhai, hailing from Sagalee, Papumpare District, around 4:00 PM on July 13. The victim was immediately rushed to TRIHMS, Naharlagun, for urgent medical attention.

Responding with commendable alacrity, a team from Roing Police was dispatched to Naharlagun at 2:00 AM on July 14. Their efforts bore fruit as the accused, Tadar Bhai, was successfully apprehended and brought back to Roing Police Station. Crucially, the firearm allegedly used in the crime was also recovered from his possession.

Roing Police have officially registered the case under Roing PS Case No. 44/2025 U/S 103(1) of BNS read with Section 27(1) of the Arms Act. Legal proceedings have been initiated, and a thorough investigation is actively underway to ensure that justice is meted out.

In the wake of rising tensions between residents of Assam and Arunachal Pradesh following the incident, the Roing Police have issued a public appeal, urging citizens of both states to maintain peace and tranquility.
