Arunachal to Receive Boost in Animal Husbandry and Fisheries Sector, Assures Union MoS

Arunachal Pradesh — Union Minister of State for Fisheries, Animal Husbandry, Dairying, and Panchayati Raj, Prof. S P Singh Baghel, has assured the Arunachal Pradesh government of comprehensive support to enhance the state’s animal husbandry and fisheries sectors.

During a review meeting with Arunachal’s Animal Husbandry and Fisheries Minister Gabriel D Wangsu, Baghel committed to prioritizing the development of essential resources and services.

Key initiatives proposed by Baghel include:

• Expedited service delivery in animal health care for local farmers.
• Development of specialized training institutes for livestock management.
• Expansion of goat and sheep husbandry practices.

The Union Minister also addressed the need for banking institutions to efficiently deliver government benefits to farmers, emphasizing corrective actions to support prompt subsidy disbursements.

In response, Minister Wangsu highlighted local challenges, notably the delays in centrally sponsored scheme (CSS) funds due to multi-installment disbursements. Wangsu urged Baghel to consider a two-installment mechanism for faster fund access, improving efficiency in farmer support programs.

Additionally, Wangsu submitted a memorandum calling for:

• Establishing a veterinary and fisheries college in Arunachal Pradesh.
• Recognizing the indigenous Mithun and Yak species under the National Livestock Mission’s Entrepreneurship Development Program.
• Developing a regional research lab for cold water fisheries.

Baghel’s assurances of collaboration with state officials reflect a strategic commitment to advancing livestock services, benefiting Arunachal’s farmers and supporting sustainable income growth.
