Arunachal: Traffic Disruption in Dirang Due to BJP Supporter’s Road Blockage in drunken state
Northeast Desk, 22nd March: A significant traffic disruption unfolded in Dirang, a town in West Kameng district, as a result of road blockage initiated by a prominent supporter of the ruling BJP party. The individual, allegedly under the influence of alcohol, obstructed the highway, leading to a severe blockade. Disturbing footage circulated online captured the accused physically assaulting commuters in the area, exacerbating the situation. This incident notably impeded the movement of vehicles attempting to traverse from Tawang through Dirang town.
In a proactive measure to uphold electoral integrity and fairness, the District Election Officer of Namsai District, Arunachal Pradesh, has issued a strict directive prohibiting the use of official vehicles for campaigning or election-related activities, except for authorized officials on duty. This directive comes in response to the announcement by the Election Commission of India regarding the 18th Lok Sabha and 11th Legislative Assembly elections, which triggered the implementation of the Model Code of Conduct, necessitating stringent adherence to regulations.
The directive, issued by C.R. Khampa, District Election Officer, explicitly bars the utilization of official vehicles by any political party, candidate, or affiliated individuals for campaign purposes. This prohibition extends to a wide range of vehicles, including cars, jeeps, buses, and auto-rickshaws, owned by government entities or public institutions.
