Arunachal: Tribal Body Claims Rs 27.51 Crore Scam in Airport Rehabilitation Scheme
Guwahati: The SIC of Arunachal Pradesh is allegedly neglecting to take any action against the suspects who are believed to have siphoned off Rs 27.51 crore earmarked for the Hollongi airport restoration plan, according to allegations made by the tribal NGO Chakma Hajong on April 22.
The Chakma Hajong Rights Alliance(CHRA), a group that advocates for the rights of Chakma and Hajong tribes, asserted in a statement that no arrest have been made in this case despite the SIC filling a FIR on September 6 of last year against a number of officials.
The Right to Fair Compensation and Transparency in Land Acquisition, Rehabilitation and Resettlement Act of 2013 authorized the money for 156 Chakma families who had been uprooted as a result of the construction of the Hollongi airport.
The Act is crystal explicit that monies for rehabilitation and resettlement must be put into each displaced person’s bank account associated with an Aadhaar card, according to CHRA spokesperson Krishna Chakma.
Krishna Chakma claimed that the project administrator improperly established the Chakma Rehabilitation and Resettlement Committee (CRRC), transferred the rehabilitation monies to the CRRC and the CRRC subsequently stole the funds rather than distributing them to the displaced victims.
