Arunachal: Van Mahotsav Celebrated in Itanagar with ‘Ek Paudha Maa ke Naam’ Theme, Emphasizing Environmental Conservation
Van Mahotsav was celebrated in Itanagar with the theme ‘Ek Paudha Maa ke Naam’ (A Plant in Mother’s Name). Organized by the Botanical Survey of India (BSI) at the Arunachal Pradesh Regional Centre, the event saw Tamme Phassang, Mayor of Itanagar Municipal Corporation, as the Chief Guest.
During the event, a plantation drive was conducted under the theme ‘Ek Paudha Maa ke Naam’. Mayor Tamme Phassang commended the efforts of BSI for organizing the event and stressed the significance of planting saplings in honor of mothers as a means to preserve the environment. He underscored the role of tree planting in fostering a sustainable and healthy planet.
Dr. Krishna Chowlu, a scientist at BSI, highlighted that Van Mahotsav is an annual celebration held in the first week of July, focusing on themes of sustainability and ecological balance. He mentioned Arunachal Pradesh’s rich biodiversity, consisting of more than 5000 species of plants, and discussed BSI’s efforts in their study, preservation, and documentation.
Dr. K Altaf Ahmed Kabeer, another scientist at BSI, emphasized the importance of Van Mahotsav in encouraging community participation in forest conservation and environmental protection. The event aimed to raise awareness about the conservation of forests and the vital role of plants in maintaining ecological balance.
