Arunachal: Water Supply Disrupted in Tawang Township Due to Land Erosion
Northeast Desk, 8th September: Tawang township and surrounding areas, including Lemberdung, Changprong, and Nyukmadung, have experienced a severe disruption in water supply following early morning land erosion. The erosion, triggered by heavy rainfall overnight, damaged key infrastructure two kilometers ahead of Bramadungchung Ani Gonpa, cutting off drinking water to the region.
Assistant Engineer Doge Kamduk from the Public Health Engineering Department (PHED) confirmed that the erosion occurred between 4 and 5 a.m., destroying vital water supply structures, affecting several areas, including Teli Field Hospital.
In response, I/c Deputy Commissioner Sang Khandu, alongside District Disaster Management Officer Genden Tsomu and other officials, visited the site to evaluate the damage. Restoration efforts are already underway, with 30 volunteers from local markets assisting PHED workers in repair efforts. Additionally, water tankers from the Tawang Brigade have been deployed to ensure residents have access to water during the disruption.
PHED is working to restore the water supply as quickly as possible.
