Arunachal: Women’s Organisation Protests Bail for Accused in East Kameng
Seppa, Arunachal Pradesh: The East Kameng unit of the Women Welfare Organization (WWO) staged a peaceful dharna on May 31st at the Seppa Session Court, raising concerns over the bail granted to Er. Jaida Singhi.
The protest underscored the WWO’s apprehension regarding the court’s decision to release Singhi on bail, particularly in light of the non-arrest of co-accused Asha Miji, who is allegedly involved alongside Singhi in a case of shared criminal intent.
Despite the WWO’s demonstration, the Session Court proceeded to grant bail to Jaida Singhi, albeit with a string of stringent conditions. These conditions are primarily aimed at safeguarding the rights and dignity of his wife, Amak Singhi. Crucially, the court explicitly barred any contact between Jaida Singhi and Asha Miji, with a stern warning that any violation of this directive would lead to the immediate cancellation of bail and subsequent re-arrest.
Furthermore, the court unequivocally reaffirmed Amak Singhi’s status as the legal spouse and issued a clear prohibition against any form of domestic violence—be it physical or psychological—by the accused. Bangni Singhi, Jaida Singhi’s elder brother, stood as bail surety and has been made legally accountable to report any breaches of the bail conditions. A failure to comply could result in his own arrest.
The WWO, while having initially protested, later expressed its appreciation for the firm and just conditions imposed by the court. The organisation believes that these conditions uphold justice and effectively reinforce the critical importance of women’s safety and dignity in matters concerning domestic violence.
