Northeast Desk, 9th January: Arunachal’s Curling team has brought pride to the state by securing 11 silver medals at the third edition of the National Curling Championship 2023-24 in Gulmarg, Jammu and Kashmir.

Arunachal Chief Minister Pema Khandu took to platform X to extend his heartfelt congratulations to the team, expressing, “Heartiest congratulations to the Curling Team from Arunachal Pradesh for clinching 11 Silver Medals🥈at the third edition of the National Curling Championship 2023-24, held at Gulmarg, Jammu & Kashmir. Your achievements have made us proud. Keep shining.”

Curling, a sport that involves sliding stones across an ice sheet toward a designated target area, shares similarities with bowls, boules, and shuffleboard. The game features two teams, each consisting of four players, taking turns sliding heavy, polished granite stones, known as ‘rocks,’ toward ‘the house’—a circular target marked on the ice.

Each team has eight stones, and each player throws two stones. The primary objective is to score the highest points, awarded for stones resting closest to the center of the house at the end of each round, or ‘end.’

An end concludes when all stones from both teams have been thrown once. Typically, a game comprises either eight or ten ends. The success of the Arunachal Curling team underscores their dedication and proficiency in this unique winter sport, bringing honor to the state.
