Arunachal’s Deomali gets a permanent APMC Market Building

Northeast Desk, 20th June: The Agricultural Produce Market Committee (APMC) daily market building in Deomali, Tirap district, is nearing full operational status, marking a significant milestone for the local community. Inaugurated by Wangki Lowang, MLA and minister, before the elections, this new facility replaces the previously dilapidated market structure, offering expanded space and modern amenities.

Deomali, known for its bustling weekly markets on Wednesdays and Saturdays, attracts vendors from Assam who sell a variety of goods, particularly fruits and vegetables. The upgraded APMC building is poised to enhance trading opportunities, providing a more conducive environment for sellers and ensuring convenience for daily customers. Essential amenities such as washrooms, 24×7 power supply, and ceiling fans have been incorporated, catering to the needs of visitors, especially during the region’s hot summers.

Local businesses and residents alike have expressed gratitude towards Minister Wangki Lowang for this transformative initiative, which is expected to elevate Deomali’s status as a commercial hub. To maintain cleanliness and hygiene standards, the district administration, along with relevant departments and NGOs, plans to conduct regular counseling sessions for vendors and customers. Additionally, ensuring the upkeep of facilities like washrooms through contributions from vendors underscores a community-driven approach to facility management.

Looking ahead, suggestions for further improvements include the construction of a multi-storey parking lot surrounding the APMC market, aiming to alleviate congestion and streamline access for all stakeholders. Minister Wangki Lowang’s efforts not only support the ‘vocal for local’ and ‘atma nirbhar Bharat’ initiatives but also promote organic farming practices, reducing reliance on external produce that may be compromised by pesticides.

Ultimately, the success of the APMC daily market in Deomali hinges on its effective utilization, encouraging local youth to explore agro-based activities and ensuring sustained economic growth for Tirap district. With its strategic location and modern infrastructure, the APMC market building is poised to become a cornerstone of economic development, benefiting both producers and consumers in the region.
