Arunachal’s Deputy CM felicitated by VIPRA Foundation
Northeast Desk, 3rd July: The VIPRA Foundation honored Arunachal Pradesh Deputy Chief Minister Chowna Mein during the ‘Swasti Kaamna Samaroh’ ceremony at the Dr. Ambedkar International Center in New Delhi on July 2. The event celebrated ongoing developments at the sacred Parshuram Kund and also recognized Union Culture and Tourism Minister Gajendra Singh Shekhawat, Minister of State for Agriculture and Farmers Welfare Bhagirath Chaudhary, and newly elected MPs.
In his address, Deputy CM Chowna Mein expressed gratitude for the public’s continued support, which has led to the BJP’s consecutive re-election in Arunachal Pradesh. He highlighted the prioritization of the Parshuram Kund development under the PRASHAD scheme by the Government of India, noting the significant contribution of the VIPRA Foundation, including the donation of a 51 ft bronze statue of Lord Parshuram.
Mein provided an update on the statue’s progress, stating that the foundation work has been completed, with the retaining wall construction underway and expected to finish soon. He emphasized plans for landscaping, beautification, and road construction to enhance accessibility to the site.
During the State Level Empowered Committee meeting, Mein announced the approval of the Rs 50 crore project for the “Construction of River Front in Parshuram Kund in Lohit District” under NESIDS (OTRI), with additional state funding of Rs 50 crore. This initiative aims to develop a riverfront and recreational space alongside the Lohit River, including facilities for pilgrims and visitors attending the annual ‘holy dip’ Mela during Makar Sankranti.
Previously, the Ministry of Tourism had sanctioned Rs 37.87 crore under the PRASHAD Scheme for various infrastructure improvements at Parshuram Kund. Mein highlighted tourism as a pivotal industry for sustainable development in Arunachal Pradesh, expressing confidence in transforming Parshuram Kund into a prominent pilgrimage site in the Northeast with continued support from stakeholders.
The ceremony was attended by notable figures including Sushil Ojha, Founder of VIPRA Foundation, and other dignitaries from various organizations.
