Arunachal’s First Govt Engineering College on Track for 2026 Opening

ITANAGAR – A long-dormant dream of educational excellence in Arunachal Pradesh is finally taking shape, as officials and community leaders rally to operationalise the state’s first Government Engineering College. A recent site inspection and review meeting, led by Papum Pare Deputy Commissioner Vishakha Yadav, has infused new life into the decade-old project, with a definitive timeline now set for its inauguration. The concerted push follows the state government’s recent sanctioning of 34 crucial posts, a development that has sent a wave of relief and optimism through the region.

The project, which saw its foundation stone laid way back in 2015 by then-Chief Minister Nabam Tuki, had languished for years, leaving the community disheartened despite their significant sacrifices. Villagers and local land donors had willingly given up ancestral land and valuable fruit orchards, holding onto the hope of a brighter educational future for their children. Now, with key academic and residential blocks complete, that hope is finally translating into tangible reality.

During the comprehensive review on July 31 at the Toru campus, DC Yadav meticulously assessed the project’s status alongside officials from various departments and the land donors themselves. She underscored the critical need for seamless coordination among all stakeholders to meet the ambitious deadline. The Assistant Engineer (PWD), Er. Yapek Yudik Taba, confirmed that a vital bridge connecting the campus across the Pare River is on track for completion by December 2025, a crucial step for ensuring road connectivity.

Further progress was highlighted by the Deputy Director of Higher and Technical Education, Minto Ete, who noted that essential supporting infrastructure like the Dean’s residence, staff quarters, and a playground are already in place. Work on the main gate and approach road is also proceeding at a brisk pace, with an expected completion date of April 2026. The installation of electrical transformers and imminent line connections also signal that the campus is gearing up for a functional start.

Addressing the gathering, which included senior district officials and local leaders, DC Yadav expressed her gratitude for the unwavering support of the land donors. She described the college not just as a centre for learning, but as a testament to the community’s shared vision and sacrifice. With all parties working in unison, the college is now firmly on a path to welcome its first batch of students in the 2026-27 academic session, marking a new chapter in Arunachal Pradesh’s educational landscape.
