Arvind Kejriwal Set to Vacate Delhi Residence, Aims to Stay Connected with Constituents
National Desk, 2nd October: Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) national convenor Arvind Kejriwal is preparing to vacate his official residence in Delhi’s Civil Lines and move to a new home within the New Delhi Assembly constituency. This relocation, expected in the next two days, follows Kejriwal’s recent resignation as Chief Minister, marking a significant transition for both him and the party.
The AAP confirmed that Kejriwal is searching for a property free from disputes to ensure stability. The decision to move aims to keep him closer to the people he serves, reflecting his commitment to staying connected with his constituents. Numerous MLAs, councillors, party workers, and local residents have offered him accommodation, showing their support during this transition.
Kejriwal’s resignation on September 17 was submitted to Delhi Lieutenant Governor VK Saxena, allowing Atishi to form a new government. Kejriwal, who was released on bail in connection with the excise policy case, has stated he will seek to reclaim the Chief Minister’s position only if he secures a renewed mandate from the electorate in the upcoming assembly elections, expected in February 2025.
On September 22, Atishi was sworn in as the Chief Minister of Delhi. During the ceremony, she placed an empty chair beside her own, symbolizing Kejriwal’s leadership. “This chair belongs to Arvind Kejriwal. I will take charge as CM for the next four months,” she said. Atishi, now 43, becomes the third woman to hold the Chief Ministerial position in Delhi, following Sushma Swaraj and Sheila Dikshit. She expressed confidence in Kejriwal’s eventual return, signaling hope for the party amidst ongoing political changes.
