Arvind Kejriwal wins in Delhi Assembly Trust Vote, Challenges PM Modi
National Desk, 17th February: Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal clinched victory in a crucial trust vote within the Delhi Assembly on Saturday, solidifying his position and setting the stage for a bold challenge to Prime Minister Narendra Modi ahead of the impending Lok Sabha elections.
The assembly convened to deliberate on the confidence motion proposed by Kejriwal himself. In his address, Kejriwal accused the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) of attempting to lure AAP MLAs in a bid to destabilize his administration. This marks the third such confidence motion faced by the Kejriwal government in the past three years.
Amidst allegations by the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) that the BJP has been orchestrating clandestine maneuvers to undermine their government in Delhi through financial inducements to its MLAs, a new twist has emerged.
The AAP has previously faced confidence motions in August 2022 and March 2023, during which it raised concerns about the BJP’s purported ‘Operation Lotus’ aimed at poaching its MLAs.
With a commanding majority in the Delhi Assembly, boasting 62 MLAs in the 70-member House, the AAP stands firm. Conversely, the opposition BJP holds eight MLAs, albeit with seven currently under suspension.
Kejriwal’s resounding victory in the trust vote not only bolsters his administration’s mandate but also serves as a rallying cry for AAP’s resolve to thwart external pressures and deliver on its promises to the people of Delhi. As the political landscape heats up ahead of the Lok Sabha elections, Kejriwal’s challenge to PM Modi signals a spirited contest on the horizon.
