Arvind Kejriwal’s Health Raises Concerns During Judicial Custody
National Desk, 3rd April: Concerns over the health of Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal have escalated amidst his ongoing judicial custody, with sources from the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) indicating a weight loss of 4.5 kg since his arrest on March 21. However, authorities at Tihar jail have refuted these claims, asserting his stable condition, backed by reports from jail doctors.
Kejriwal’s confinement stems from his involvement in a money laundering case linked to Delhi’s now-revoked judicial custody, with his detention extended until April 15 by the court. Housed in a 14×8 feet cell in Tihar’s jail number 2, the Chief Minister, grappling with diabetes, reportedly experienced fluctuations in his blood sugar levels, dropping below 50 at one point. Jail authorities have intervened, providing necessary medications and implementing measures such as home-cooked meals to ensure his well-being. Additionally, a quick response team is stationed nearby for emergencies.
Despite his confinement, Kejriwal managed to communicate with his wife, Sunita, via video conference, and met his lawyer in person.
The Enforcement Directorate’s concerns over potential hindrances to their investigation led to Kejriwal’s remand in judicial custody, with the agency alleging his lack of cooperation. Today, a crucial hearing is scheduled for Kejriwal’s petition for interim relief, amidst mounting legal battles and continued scrutiny over his health during custody.
