Asam Sahitya Sabha elects Dr. Surjya Hazarika as its New President
Digital Desk: Dr. Surjya Hazarika on Saturday was elected to be the Asam Sahitya Sabha as its new president.
He was a recipient of the Padma Shri Award, and the then-President of India, Smt. Pratibha Devisingh Patil, presented him with the award for Literature and Education in 2008.
On the other hand, Upendrajit Sarma and Girij Handique have been chosen as the General Secretary and Vice President, respectively, of the Sahitya Sabha.
Election Officer Harendra Nath Bora said earlier today that there were 734 ballots in the Asam Sahitya Sabha’s voting boxes.
At least nine ballots were turned in after the deadline but were later determined to be invalid since they arrived after the deadline.
It should be noted that on October 26, at least 18 people from the Jorhat headquarters submitted their nominations for the three positions of President, Vice President, and General Secretary.
The deadline for nominations was October 27, and voting took place between November 2 and 13.
