Asian Boxing Championship: Shiva Thapa Scripts 6th Medal For India
Guwahati: India’s Shiva Thapa defeated South Korea’s Minsu Choi 4-1 to guarantee himself at least a bronze medal in the Asian Boxing Championships 2022 in the quarterfinals of the 63.5kg division on Sunday in Amman, Jordan.
Shiva Thapa, a boxer who competed in the London 2012 Olympics and was the Asian champion in 2013, has a chance to win his sixth medal at the Asian Championships making him the only male boxer in the competition’s history to accomplish this accomplishment.
Thapa, who also won bronze in 2015 and 2019 and silver in 2017 and 2021, will compete against Tajik Bakhodur Usmonov, the winner of the gold medal in 2019.
In an earlier match of the day, Indian boxer Mohammad Hussamuddin defeated South Korean boxer Haengseok Lee to advance to the semifinal of the 57 kg (featherweight) division in the ongoing Asian Boxing Championships being held in Amman, Jordan.
Hussamuddin thoroughly dominated his opponent, winning 5-0. India will now receive their sixth medal in the competition thanks to his victory.

Ananta Chopade, an Indian boxer lost in the 54 kg (bantamweight) division’s quarterfinal contest. He was defeated 0–4 in the game.

Lovlina Borgohain, an Indian boxer who has won an Olympic medal defeated Kazakhstan’s Valentina Khalzova on Saturday to get to the semifinal in the 75 kg division.
She prevailed in her contest 3-2 on a split decision. Following victories by Minakshi (52 kg), Preeti (57 kg), Parveen (63 kg), and Ankushita Boro (66 kg) in their individual quarterfinal matches, her victory has guaranteed India the fifth medal.
In the quarterfinal round, Kazakhstan’s Dariga Shakimova defeated India’s Pooja (70kg) with a score of 0-5. Jordan will host the competition from November 1 to November 12.
