ASJU: Don’t sacrifice cows on Eid-ul-Adha
Guwahati: The Assam State Jamiat Ulama (ASJU) has encouraged all of its fellow Muslims to refrain from sacrificing cows for their sacred holiday of Eid-Ul-Adha.
“Qurbani is an essential duty for Muslims who can afford the ritual and tradition permits sacrificing of animals like camels, goats, buffaloes, sheep and cows,” the Jamiat Ulama stated. (Translated)
“However, India is a country of people of diverse communities, ethnic groups and religions. Most inhabitants of India profess the Sanatan faith, which treats the cow as a holy object,” it stated.
“The Darul Ulooma had said that there is no mention in scripture that the sacrifice of cows is mandatory. Since the emotions of the majority of people are associated with the cow, therefore, Darul Uloom had suggested the use of other animals for the ritual sacrifice,” it further added.
President of the State Jamiat Ulama, Lok Sabha MP, Badruddin Ajmal asked Muslims to sacrifice other animals besides cows this Ramadan.
Muslims will celebrate Eid ul-Adha on July 10.
