Assam: 1 killed, 8 injured as van falls into pit in Cachar

Guwahati: At least one person and eight injured in a road accident in Cachar district of Assam on Tuesday.

The incident took place at Nepali basti area near Kumbrigram of the district.

According to reports, the incident occurred when the Maruti van in which they were travelling lost control and crashed into a 50-foot-deep chasm.

Reportedly, the van carrying passengers was travelling from Kumbha village.

Following the incident, adjacent residents alerted Indian Army jawans stationed at a camp near the incident site and rescue efforts were launched.

In the incident, one died on the spot and the injured were immediately rushed to a nearby hospital for better treatment.

Meanwhile, the deceased has been identified as Manik Tantibai is a resident of Kumbhirgram tea estate.

Upon receiving the information, Silchar police reached the spot and recovered the deceased’s body for post-mortem examination.
