Assam: 10 Opposition Parties Joins Together to Fight Against BJP Under Congress Leadership
Guwahati: Ten opposition political groups in Assam have united under the leadership of the Congress to battle the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party(BJP) in a significant political move. The ten party leaders met at the Hotel Lily in Guwahati to examine the state’s present political climate on March 10.
All India United Democratic Front (AIUDF), Trinamool Congress (TMC) and Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) were not invited to the conference. Assam State Congress Committee President Bhupen Borah presided over the meeting which was also attended by a number of notable figures including Bharat Narah, Lurinjyoti Gogoi, Jagdeep Bhuyan, Akhil Gogoi, Manuranjan Talukdar and Ajit Bhuyan.
Following the three-hour discussion, Bhupen Borah spoke at a news conference and announced that the 10 political parties’ central and grassroots workers will be attending a large rally on April 9 in Guwahati. He added that they reached agreement on a number of vital measures to fight the BJP jointly as well as a number of significant resolutions that were made during the meeting.
The decision to exclude AIUDF from the meeting was supported by the attendees. Many attendees praised the action as a clever one because it was considered as a step away from communal politics.
The Congress which has been battling to restore its lost ground in the state has received a significant boost from the opposition parties’ cooperation against the BJP in Assam. The next mass gathering will be widely monitored since it will demonstrate the cohesion and strength of the opposition parties in the state against the BJP.
