Assam: 134 Ecological Task Force Kicks Off Platinum Jubilee with Massive Plantation Drive
Guwahati, 18th May: The 134 Infantry Battalion (Territorial Army) Ecological, Assam, also known as the 134 Ecological Task Force (ETF), has commenced its Platinum Jubilee celebrations with a significant plantation drive. Marking 75 years of the Territorial Army (1949-2024), the event coincided with National Endangered Species Day and took place in the villages of Gamani, Satai, and Garobasti in Sonitpur district.
Established in 2007, the 134 ETF has played a crucial role in combating deforestation and promoting ecological restoration in Sonitpur and Biswanath districts. In keeping with its mission, the battalion organized a mass plantation drive, planting 5,000 fruit-bearing and shade-giving trees in local communities and schools. This initiative, aimed at enhancing the region’s green cover, saw enthusiastic participation from villagers and school children.
During the event, ETF personnel engaged with community members and students, emphasizing the importance of protecting ecosystems and preserving endangered species. They underscored that successful ecological missions rely heavily on active community involvement.
This mass plantation drive is the first in a series of events planned for the Platinum Jubilee Year, focusing on fostering environmental awareness and sustainability. The 134 ETF’s dedication to ecological restoration and community engagement mirrors the broader commitment of the Territorial Army to national service and environmental stewardship.
