Assam: 15-Day-Old Wild Elephant Calf Trapped in Goalpara Residential Area, Rescue Efforts Underway
Guwahati, 24th September: A 15-day-old wild elephant calf has become trapped in a residential zone within the Barjhar forest area of Dudhnai, Goalpara district, sparking concerns among locals and wildlife authorities. The calf, likely separated from its herd, was spotted wandering the area in distress, searching for its mother.
The Barjhar forest, known for its large elephant population, has seen a significant herd freely moving through the region. The calf is believed to have strayed from this group and entered the forested residential area.
Forest department officials have responded quickly to assess the situation, assuring the community that plans are in place to safely rescue the young elephant and reunite it with its herd, which remains nearby.
