Guwahati, September 3, 2024 – A 15-year-old boy was arrested in Assam’s Karimganj district on Monday for allegedly attempting to rape a three-year-old girl. The arrest followed a complaint filed by the girl’s family, who reported the incident to the police.
According to the complaint, the boy visited the family’s home on Sunday evening, ostensibly to play with the girl. During a brief period when the girl’s mother was away, the boy was reportedly found attempting to undress the child. Upon the mother’s return, the boy fled but was later apprehended by neighbors and handed over to the police.
Karimganj SP Partha Pratim Das confirmed the registration of the case, noting that, due to the boy’s age, the case will be managed by the Juvenile Justice Board (JJB). The victim has undergone necessary medical examinations, though her young age has prevented her from providing a statement. Authorities have recorded statements from the girl’s family and are continuing their investigation into the matter.
