Assam: 17 cattle heads seized by BSF at Indo-Bangla border despite dense fog situation

Guwahati, 21st January: In a challenging operation, the vigilant troops of Border Security Force’s (BSF) BOP Boreralga 45 Battalion successfully apprehended a substantial number of buffaloes in the South Salmara-Mankachar district. Tasked with covering the Brahmaputra channel amid dense fog and low visibility, the on-duty BSF personnel detected suspicious activity by alleged cattle smugglers during the early hours of January 21, 2024.

Upon noticing covert movements around Boreralga Char and Khagrachar, the BSF troops confronted the suspected smugglers, who managed to escape by jumping into the Brahmaputra river channel amid dense fog. Undeterred, the jawans of BSF surrounded the location and seized 17 buffalo heads, valued at approximately Rs. 2.03 lakhs.

This accomplishment underscores the dedication of the 45 Battalion of BSF, as monitoring the unfenced, wild elephant grass-covered riverine territory poses significant challenges. Despite the difficulties posed by the riverine areas and winter fog, the troops exhibited watchfulness in tackling the notorious challenges of cattle smuggling in Boreralga Char and Khagrachar.
