Assam: 17 Notorious Theft Accused Apprehended in Silchar; Stolen Items Recovered

Guwahati, 5th Jan: In a significant breakthrough, Cachar Police conducted a nightlong special operation, leading to the apprehension of 17 notorious theft accused in Silchar. The operation was prompted by the increasing concerns among the citizens of Silchar district due to a spate of theft incidents.

Five teams, led by DSP (Probationary) and OC Silchar Sadar, played a crucial role in the operation, capturing the accused from various areas, including Tarapur, Malugram, Rongpur, Rangirkhari, Ghungoor, and other parts of the district.

The recovered stolen items encompassed mobile phones, laptops, batteries, utensils, and other valuables. Cachar SP Numal Mahatta affirmed the police’s commitment to public safety and mentioned ongoing interrogations of the arrested individuals for potential leads. He urged the public to remain vigilant and assured that the police and administration are working diligently to apprehend and bring troublemakers to justice.

The recent upsurge in theft incidents in Silchar and its outskirts had raised serious concerns among the public, with numerous reports circulating on social media. The successful operation is a significant step towards addressing these concerns and ensuring the safety of the community.
