Assam: 181 DNLA militants lay down arms in presence of CM Himanta Biswa Sarma in Dima Hasao

Guwahati, 28th October: In a major triumph against insurgency in Assam, 181 members of the Dimasa National Liberation Army (DNLA) militant outfit have renounced violence and embraced the path of peace, returning to the mainstream.

A special ceremony took place today at the Daulagupu stadium in Haflong, where these 181 DNLA cadres willingly laid down their arms in the presence of Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma. Notably, the event was graced by the attendance of other prominent figures, including North Cachar Hills Autonomous Council (NCHAC) CEM Debolal Gorlosa, Assam Director General of Police GP Singh, and ministers Pijush Hazarika, Jayanta Malla Barua, and Nandita Gorlosa. Additional Director General of Police Hiren Nath and Additional Chief Secretary Ravi Kota also bore witness to this historic moment.

In addition to relinquishing their weapons, former DNLA members were granted a one-time financial aid to assist in their reintegration into society. This ceremony follows the peace agreement signed earlier this year between the DNLA and the government, in the presence of Union Home Minister Amit Shah and Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, marking a significant step towards lasting peace and stability in Assam.
