Guwahati, 19th February: Sensation gripped the Bhabanipur Goliya animal market as three youths were apprehended while attempting to sell stolen cattle, sparking a commotion among traders and locals alike.

According to reports, three cows recently went missing from a field in Sarania, prompting a frantic search by the owner. The situation took a dramatic turn when the trio of Rakesh Das, Ibrahim Ali, and Rup Hussain attempted to sell the stolen cows to a trader named Nilomoni Choudhury for a sum of Rs 25,000.

Alert traders and vigilant bystanders quickly discerned the suspicious transaction and alerted authorities from the Bhabanipur police station. Swift action led to the apprehension of the three youths, who were promptly taken into custody for further investigation.

The unfolding drama reached its peak when the rightful owner of the stolen cows arrived at the market and immediately recognized his livestock. His outcry attracted attention, confirming the suspicions of onlookers that the cattle being brought to the market were indeed the stolen ones.

In light of the discovery, the three thieves were formally detained as the investigation into the incident continues. Cattle theft remains a persistent challenge in rural areas, often intertwined with broader issues such as cross-border smuggling along the Indo-Bangladesh border and interstate borders with neighboring states like Meghalaya. Authorities are actively working to address these concerns and curb illicit activities that undermine the livelihoods and security of rural communities.
