Assam: 3kg of Ganja seized in Bijni; Smuggler arrested
Guwahati: In a successful anti-narcotics operation, the Amguri police apprehended a smuggler in Patalmari under the Amguri police station in Bijni, Chirang, on Tuesday night. The arrested individual has been identified as Sattar Ali (35), a resident of Patalmari.
Acting on specific intelligence, a police team led by Pomkhedi Bijni Sub-Divisional Police Officer Prasenjit Das, Amguri Police Station in-charge Pankaj Dal, 2nd officer Prince Buragohain, and other officials set up a trap to intercept the accused. The team successfully seized 3 kg 100 grams of ganja from Sattar Ali, who was reportedly on his way to Patalmari to sell the contraband.
Police sources reveal that they had prior information about the smuggling activities, which helped them strategically plan the arrest. Sattar Ali was caught red-handed as he left his house with the illicit substance. The accused, along with the seized ganja, was taken to Amguri police station for further investigation.
This operation is part of the Chirang district police’s ongoing effort to combat illegal drug trafficking in the region. Authorities have assured that stringent legal action will be taken against those involved in the illegal drug trade. Additionally, investigations are underway to identify potential links to larger drug networks operating in the area.
Further interrogation of the accused is expected to yield more leads into the supply chain and uncover other accomplices involved in the smuggling racket. Authorities have urged residents to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities related to drug trafficking.
