Assam: 4 critically injured in Dergaon accident shifted to GMCH
Guwahati, 4th Jan: In a devastating incident on Wednesday morning, a bus transporting a group of picnic-goers from Golaghat to Tinsukia met with a tragic mishap at Balijan near Dergaon, resulting in 10 immediate fatalities and multiple injuries. The death toll later rose to 12, as two individuals succumbed to their injuries en route to the hospital.
As of Thursday, several victims remain in critical condition, with four critically injured individuals, identified as Kulumoni Saikia, Preeti Saikia, Mridul Saikia, and Arup Saikia, transferred to Gauhati Medical College and Hospital (GMCH). Notably, Kulumoni and Preeti are mother and daughter.
The attending medical team at GMCH is closely monitoring all injured victims, providing detailed updates on their conditions. Six-year-old Preeti Saikia, admitted at 1 am on January 4, is facing ENT bleeding and a six-centimeter prestitch wound from the base of her ear to the base of the mandibular angle. Dr H Ahmed is overseeing her care, anticipating the need for plastic surgery.
Kulumoni Saikia, Preeti’s mother, arrived at GMCH at 1:25 am, exhibiting tenderness over the left shoulder joint, a lacerated injury over the right knee joint, and a reported fracture of six ribs. Currently under the observation of Dr R Das, her condition remains critical. The entire injured group is under the vigilant care of the medical experts at GMCH.
