Assam: 5 construction firm employees arrested for death of person in Kamrup district

Guwahati, 1st March: Following a tragic incident in Assam’s Kamrup district where a person lost his life due to a falling concrete slab from an under-construction flyover, five employees of the construction firm involved have been arrested, as confirmed by police on Friday.

Sub-inspector Dipak Sarma of Bhaihata police station revealed that the arrests were made on Thursday evening, and the individuals were subsequently presented before the court of the sub-judicial magistrate, Rangia. The court remanded them to judicial custody, he added.

The incident occurred when Fulchand Ali, a peanut seller, was fatally struck by the falling concrete slab from the flyover being constructed along NH-27 on Wednesday. In response, a suo motu case was initiated at Baihata police station.

The National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) was called in to recover the body, while the district administration took immediate action by halting the construction of the flyover. An investigation has been initiated to determine whether there was any negligence on the part of the construction firm involved.
