Assam: 5 die on spot, several injured in road accident in Biswanath

Guwahati: In a horrifying incident at least five minors died on spot and several got injured in a road incident at national highway 15 in Biswanath district of Assam on Saturday night.

The incident took place at the Tokobari area near Gohpur, under Helem Police station.

The deceased have been identified as Radhika Daimary, Buddhimoti Boro, Bornali Boro, Sanjay Basumatary and Kalimon Basumatary. All of them is the resident of North Karibeel in Kosarigaon village of the district.

According to reports, a group of 20 boys and girls had gone to perform Husori at Rangajan in Gohpur. They were returning late at night when the accident took place as the driver of the four-wheeler pickup van in which they were coming, lost control and the vehicle overturned.

Moreover, the van registered with number AS 25 DC 7418.

Five people, of whom two were boys and three were girls, were killed on the spot. Those who died in the accident included minors as well.

According to survivors of the accident, the driver of the vehicle was under the influence of alcohol while driving and missed a corner while speeding, causing the vehicle to flip.

The driver is said to have managed to flee the area after causing the accident.

Meanwhile, the injured were brought to a nearby hospital, while those with serious injuries were transferred to Tezpur Medical College and Hospital (TMCH) for better care, according to residents, who added that they were in critical condition and might not live.
