Assam: 5 killed and 1 injured as speeding truck hits devotees on way to temple in National Highway 27

Guwahati, 12th August: A catastrophic road accident on National Highway 27 near the Mahamaya Temple in Kachugaon, Gossaigaon, has claimed the lives of five individuals, leaving another seriously injured. The incident occurred when a truck, after crossing the temple, lost control and crashed, leading to a devastating series of events.

Local authorities, including Gossaigaon Sub-Divisional Police Officer Hiren Kumar Deka and the Kachugaon Police, swiftly responded to the scene. Initial investigations reveal that the same truck was involved in a subsequent fatal collision at Bishmuri in Kokrajhar. In this second incident, the truck struck a car, resulting in the deaths of two more individuals.

The victims of the first crash have been identified as Sukran Roy, 20; Jai Roy, 11; Bappi Ghosh, 21; Basudev Roy, 22; and Naba Ghosh, 26, all hailing from Hatigarh Village No. 1, Gossaigaon. The injured, 22-year-old Binan Roy, was rushed to Kachugaon Primary Hospital for urgent treatment.

Authorities are now conducting a comprehensive investigation into the circumstances surrounding the dual collisions, as the local community mourns this tragic loss of life.
