Assam: 52 DNLA Militants Lay Down Arms In Karbi Anglong
Guwahati: At least 52 cadres of Dimasa National Liberation Army (DNLA) including four women laid down their arms and came overground in Karbi Anglong district of Assam on Wednesday.
The programme took place at the existing DNLA designated camp at Dhansiri in the district.
According to national media reports, Additional Director General of Police (Special Branch) Hiren Chandra Nath said “In total, 52 cadres came overground and they include four women. This culminates in the mainstreaming of the DNLA. These cadres could not come earlier as they were holed up in very interior locations of Nagaland.”
He further informed that the cadres deposited one carbine, one pump action gun, two .22 rifles, one .303 rifle, a hand grenade, two .32 pistols.
The DNLA was established in 2019 with the goal of establishing a sovereign nation for the Dimasa tribe’s people. On September 7, the organisation declared a three-month unilateral ceasefire as a “goodwill gesture” and a “positive response to the chief minister’s plea for peace.”
Dimasa tribe’s people are primarily found in Assam and Nagaland.
It may be noted that 113 DNLA cadres put down their guns in December of last year. So far, 165 fighters connected to the organisation have crossed the border.
It may be mentioned that on September 24, the DNLA chairman Edika Diphusa alias Kharmindao Dimasa, his deputy Juddychan Haflongbar and general secretary Prithamjit Jidongsa crossed the border.
