Assam: 57 Poachers surrender on World Rhino Day

Guwahati: At least 57 poachers have been surrendered their arms before Bodoland Territorial Region (BTR) near the Raimona National Park in Assam’s Kokrajhar district on 22 September, on the occasion of World Rhino Day.

The poachers were presented an amount of Rs.50000 each as a financial support by Pramod Boro, a chief executive member of BTR. He also asked the poachers to stop killing the wild animals and make the region poaching free.

Boro further said that the initiative to make the poachers surrender their rifles began after Raimona was named a national park and to honour their step to surrender and to protect their livelihood, the government is planning to further give an amount of Rs1.20 lakh to start a new business.

It may be mentioned that on the same day Assam government burnt 2479 rhino horns to stop rhino poaching in the state.
