Assam: 8 KTU Militants Surrender In Dima Hasao
Guwahati: Eight Kuki Tribal Union (KTU) terrorists surrendered before Assam Rifles at Sarkari Bagain in Assam’s Dima Hasao district, which might be viewed as a positive development.
The KTU militants engaged in aggressive acts such as extorting money from residents in various regions of the Northeast, according to Assam Rifles.
According to information obtained, the eight cadres joined the KTU last year after seceding from the militant organisation Kuki Revolutionary Army (KRA).
“The group operates mainly in the Kuki-dominated area of Nagaland, Manipur, and Assam’s Dima Hasao and Karbi Anglong districts. The tribal militants off-late started collecting ‘taxes’ (subscriptions) in Kuki tribal inhabited areas of Jiribam and Tamenglong,” an intelligence official said.
Notably, the militants had been receiving at the NSCN-IM camp and were intimately connected to them.
They were later delivered to the Haflong Police Station for additional legal proceedings.
