Assam: Absconding Railway Official Nabbed in Guwahati for Wife’s Murder

Guwahati, July 20, 2025 – In a significant breakthrough, an absconding railway official, wanted in connection with the murder of his wife, has been apprehended in Guwahati, police confirmed. The accused, Rahul Singh, who served as the station master at Kendukona railway station near Rangia in Assam’s Kamrup district, was taken into custody on Saturday, over two weeks after his wife was discovered deceased at their home.

Police revealed that Singh had been living in disguise, working as a private security guard in a building within the city. Following his arrest, he was brought to Rangia and subsequently produced before a local court. The court remanded him to four days of police custody for further questioning.

The Northeast Frontier Railway official is alleged to have fatally stabbed his wife, Anjali Singh, on July 2, reportedly in front of their children, before fleeing the scene. A police officer had earlier stated that the two children had directly implicated their father in their mother’s death. The investigation saw collaborative efforts from the Forensic Department and the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) who assisted the local police.

Adding a grim layer to the case, an audio clip, purportedly sent by the victim to her relatives, had surfaced just days after the murder. In the recording, Anjali can be heard detailing instances of mental and physical abuse inflicted upon her by her husband and mother-in-law. She had also chillingly revealed that her husband had threatened to kill her, emphasizing that he should be held accountable if anything untoward were to befall her.
